Cafe 58 Weekly Update, 9/19

Hello soccer fans, players, volunteers, etc..

It's time again for the email that is the "MUST READ" of all the emails that you receive.  This update will cover 3 things:
1.  Status of our scholarship funds raised through the Cafe 58 proceeds
2.  Parents of 6, 7, 8 and 9 year olds - we need you to come and try our breakfast and/or lunch!!!
3.  Highlights of our NEW MENU options, including more reasons for vegetarians to REJOICE!!!

1.  Scholarship Funds:
Aside from the awesome food, great prices and friendly service, ALL of the net proceeds from Cafe 58 go right back into our program to primarily fund the financial aid that we provide to families.  Last year we had over $8,000 of scholarships provided to families, and this year we have already provided almost $6,000 of funds to families with financial needs and we are still processing some more requests.  You might think that the cup of coffee, egg sandwich or burger are merely helping satisfy that hunger that you are experiencing every Saturday, but, in fact, every purchase you make at Cafe 58 truly helps a child or family in need in our community.  To see our progress toward meeting our goal of raising $10,000 for scholarships, go to our Cafe 58page on our website at ---> Cafe 58 web page

2.  07U, 08U and 10U parents - we NEED your support:
We have noticed a distinct lack of support from the families of the 6, 7, 8 and 9 year old kids because they tend to go to their field on the west side of the park and return immediately to their cars after the games.  Do you know that Cafe 58 even exists, where it is located and what we do?  Perhaps not, so
PLEASE give us just one try this weekend for either breakfast or lunch, or give your team Snack Bar Bucks as opposed to going shopping for a snack.  Everyone who has had our food raves about the taste, the value and friendliness of our volunteers - we really need your support of our program!!!  Hey, you have to eat anyway, so you might as well help us out and get some good food at the same time.

3.  New Menu Options:
Last season we heard from lots of people asking for all sorts of things (most of which we decided against, including reserved parking for anyone buying coffee, a drive-through window and the ever-popular all-you-can-eat seafood buffet featuring lobster!!!).  But we did listen to many of you, and decided to add a few new things to our Cafe 58 menu.  Our full menu and other information is shown on our website at the link -->  Cafe 58 Menu
a.  Vegetarian options - these now include egg sandwiches (ordered without any meat), pancakes (also without meat, but who really wants sausage in their pancakes???), grilled cheese and veggie burgers.  With all of these options, we thought people would be lining up all the way to Van Nuys Blvd to honor the role of our wonderful veggies in soccer community - but alas, no.  We then heard that many vegetarians among us prefer to not have the veggie foods cooked on the same equipment (grills, etc..) with the same appliances as the "meat-ful" foods.  Starting this week, we are going to be DEDICATING ONE OF OUR GRILLS TO ONLY VEGGIE FOODS, NO MEAT PRODUCTS.  Now if this doesn't get your veggie palate working overtime, we don't know what will.  We will continue this process as long as we get enough people to start purchasing our veggie fare.  (We are also going to send out a survey to get more feedback from everyone - look for a Survey Monkey email coming within the next week.)

b.  Other NEW menu options -
       (1)  Brewed Iced Tea - We started brewing iced tea (32 oz for ONLY $2), a couple of weeks ago and we sold out.  We are now stocking up and will have plenty of delicious, refreshing iced tea from now on.  This is unsweetened tea brewed (not that stuff made from powder), so come and get a big cup before your game!!!
       (2)  Iced Blended Coffee - On those hot / warm / cool days, nothing tastes better for those coffee lovers than an Iced Blended Coffee, so we now have them.
       (3)  Nacho's - brought back by popular demand after a few years of being gone, these fav's are truly "chips off the old block", with nothing but nacho chips covered with delicious yummy-ness of cheese.  (No, we did not save and re-use the chips left over from 4 years ago!!!).
        (4) Grilled Cheese Sandwiches - introduced last year, kids love them and parents crave them (you know you do!!!).  These sandwiches are toasty on the outside and cheesy / gooey on the inside - the ultimate in comfort food to go with a brewed ice tea.

Next week, we'll give you more information about our Special Sandwich Day coming in October!!!

Have a safe and fun weekend, and come to Cafe 58 - once you try our food, you WILL come back (everyone always does)!!!

Joe
