GREETINGS PARENTS AND PLAYERS :

We had a great but chilly session last night.  The boys worked hard on lead offs and base stealing with our pitchers, catchers, 1B and middle infield.  I anticipate our team being an outstanding base running and stealing group.  The boys were able to get a good feel for the size of lead they are able to take and technique to get back if necessary and to gain the extra base when possible.  Pitchers got a bunch of work on throws over and catchers worked hard on accurate throws to second.

We also worked on catching balls in the air in the outfield and becoming comfortable with applicable footwork associated on getting ball back into the infield quickly.  I was happy with the group’s focus and attention to detail and staying involved on a chilly night.

We finished with pitchers and catchers getting a good deal of work from the mound.  Practice ran until 9pm and it seemed that they guys were not ready to leave.  There was a gathering behind the mound at the end of our session.  It was fun to see the group begin to bond and some personalities begin to emerge.  I feel that this comfort level by this group of different grade level and different schools is important to the team’s success this year.  The boys were assigning nicknames to one another and working on “special” baseball handshakes.  This is great for team building and is encouraging as we move towards the beginning of the season.

Our next practice is Saturday morning at 9am.  I understand that there is some overlap in schedules with other activities.  However, if your son is available, please make every effort to have him at Granny White.  We will devote the entire session to batting practice for the team to be thrown by our pitching rotation.  The pitching rotation will get lots of work and your sons will see live pitching from his peer group as we focus on the start of the season, which is now only a week away.

Finally, we have a scrimmage on Tuesday next week, April 11.  We will begin at 6:30pm.  Please have your son at Granny White by at least 6:15PM on Tuesday night.
